When I watch a 007 James Bond film I am not entirely convinced that he is only a fictitious character. After all, he represents modern day heroes (from the fallen victims of ISIS to world leaders to the numerous secret intelligence organizations) and the intricacy surrounding political espionage on the global stage. Like M16 shrouded in deep secrecy so is Bond.. James Bond providing dangerous allure and intrigue to all genders and demographics. We live in a world of crisis, combat, and the perpetual vacillation between – good versus evil – superpower versus superpower, NATO versus KGB, IRA, Taliban, North Korea – and other unholy alliances.
James Bond is the purveyor of anti-terrorism; the ideal mortal superhero who effervescently exudes a certain cool manner no matter what dire circumstances are set before him. His flippant attitude evokes an untouchable approach and universal sex appeal; so close and yet so far; so unattainable or is he? Women want to climb into bed with him and men aspire to be him, but in either case we are left on the edge of our seats whet with an anticipation of what comes next in theatrical tactical maneuvers. Outracing evildoers while skiing in the Swiss Alps, speeding at high velocity in an Aston Martin DB10 in Rome (upcoming Spectre film), escaping in a wooden fishing boat in Panama City, bungee jumping off the Contra Dam in Switzerland –these are just a few activities in the daily routine of 007. A spy’s life is a globetrotting spectacle with unlimited locations and a plethora of targets and terrorists to destroy- with voyages to places like Iceland, Spain, South Africa, Bahamas, Morocco, Turkey, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Chile, Italy, and Austria.
In a world of high techno-espionage through the machinations of Q – from shark inflating pellets to an invisible Aston Martin, the James Bond franchise has evolved to include more realistic technology such as a multi-touch giant size table, geolocation to hunt down villains, and a transparent video wall stimulation – thereby combining more of our current technology with the current political landscape. This makes it more easily identifiable to everyday life.
Like every individual in this world, James Bond is a very complex character – reticent, cold and unemotional on the surface; yet he loves deeply and passionately – his country; his women. His hatred for the devils in the world cannot be softened even though at times a faint light of hope flickers in his eyes for mankind and good will to dominate. What’s more he’s a badass who likes his martinis and has a penchant for all things luxury – Omega, Tom Ford, John Varvatos, Vuarnet, Dueller Prismatic, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander-this is only a handful – there is a much longer list, but we’ll leave that to your imagination.
A passion for intrigue; a love of high adrenaline adventure; an unquenched desire to travel and the capability and skill sets to conquer and excel – all in opulent surroundings make so many people daydream those fantasies into unique reality! It’s not just boot camp clinics and shooting ranges, but the opportunity to partake in hostile scenarios – recreating scenes from James Bond movies or developing your own script – diamond heists, protection of a dignitary, and acquiring “00” status.
